A superb 4-day bike tours Vietnam that will take us to the best of central Vietnam through heart-stopping rural scenery, as we ride from Hoi An to Phong Nha. Our journey will lead us all the way to the National Park of Phong Nha, where you will ascertain why it has been declared as one of UNESCO’s World Heritage sites. Leaving back perhaps the last remaining pocket of old-growth greenery, we ride right through abundant vegetation and the quickly disappearing wilderness, and meet cultures forgotten in time, as well as ethnic minority communities where locals have been living and working through the ages.
Exploring the longest limestone cave in Asia is also part of our 4-day bike tours Vietnam; get ready to be totally spellbound by the sights along your way, and allow yourself to be drawn into the scents and sounds of the forest as you go passed it. This exciting experience ends with a pinch of history, as we ride to the top of the Hai Van pass and visit popular tourist destinations, such as the imperial capital of Hue and the infamous tunnels of Vinh Moc, as well as historic sites not many people know of their existence before we finally come back to Hoi An.
Day 1: Hoi An-Prao (150 km)
The traditional rice paddies are typical of the scenery we drive through up to the Cham Tower and other sites with great historical significance. The Ho Chi Ming trail will then lead us to the thundering waterfall that will be our relaxation stopover. For those ready to dive into the crystal clear waters of the rumbling waterfall, you will have a chance to enjoy swimming too.
Our journey continues into the highlands, and an inviting ethnic minority community that will be our friendly host.
We spend the night at Prao, after we have dinner at a local restaurant.
Day 2: Prao – Khe Sanh (180 km)
Saying goodbye to the welcoming locals, we enhance our riding experience with the elaborate jungle and mountain trails of the Ho Chi Minh trail. Going passed ethnic minorities and distinguishing on-stilt houses on the road to Khe Sanh, we stop at Co Tu, another minority village of the Pa Co people, located not far from the town of Ta Rut. We meet the locals, learn exciting facts about their life there, and aspire to travel through Vietnam’s most striking passes that still lie ahead. The newly-constructed road is quiet and allows you to become a witness of unparalleled natural beauty and primitive forests, so typical of the Truong Son mountain range. Despite the wilderness and majestic surrounding, you will be amazed by the serenity and peace the area gives off; the mountains, the jungle, the famous Dakrong Bridge.
We finally arrive at Khe Sanh where we stay overnight.
Day 3: Khe Sanh via Demilitarized Zone – Hue (160 km)
Today on our bike tours vietnam we ride the Highway 9 that leads us to the famous Carol Camp, which was active during the war with the Americans, and the popular rock piles. The road takes us to the Peace Bridge, or as known to the locals, the Hien Luong Bridge; a significant landmark that carries a heavy history on its shoulders. Built by the French in mid 1900s, on the borderline of South and North Vietnam, just before the Ben Hai River and the Here River, this steel-made bridge played an important role when Vietnam was divided into the southern and northern zone, along the 17th parallel, under the Geneva Agreements of 1954.
Another strategically located site that we will also be visiting today is the Vinh Moc complex of tunnels, again on the border of South and North Vietnam. It was built to shelter the villagers during the American War bombing. The Vietnamese Demilitarized Zone has more sites of profound interest, such as the Complex of Tunnels.
Right after our exploration of the impressive monuments of the American War, the tunnels take us to our next stop: a local beach, where we can enjoy our lunch and catch our breath, next to an absolutely amazing scenery.
As we keep on riding along the coast, we visit the Quang Tri citadel, a proud survivor of the 1972 bombing. After 81 full days enduring fierce bomb-attacks, it still stands majestic.
Hue is today’s overnight stay.
Day 4: Hue – Hai Van pass and Elephant Springs– Hoi An (150 km)
The day finds us riding towards the Elephant Springs; the ideal place for those seeking tranquility and a cool dive to rejuvenate them. The Lang Co bay is our next stop, where we can have lunch and savor the enchanting scenery, right before we head for the highest location on the Highway 1: the Hai Van pass. It is a great location, offering breath-taking views of iconic landscapes and the full-of-life city of Da Nang. As we drive along the Cua Dai beach, we set off for some more adventure with cave exploration at the Marble Mountains, visit the mountainous pagodas, and see hand-made sculptures masterly made from passion stone.
The bike tours Vietnam trip ends with lots of fantastic memories and experiences lived, packed in our luggage, as soon as we arrive in Hoi An.
